How Not to Get Caught in a Rebound Relationship
Quite often, when we are involved in a serious relationship that comes to an end, we feel a bit lost. Going from spending all of your time with someone you are in love with to being alone can be a jolt for your entire body.
Emotionally, you may miss the closeness and companionship that makes you long for the same type of connection. This is generally what happens when someone find themselves in a rebound relationship.
A rebound relationship is a relationship that you enter soon after another relationship has ended.
It's generally a union that happens quickly and on all levels helps you to feel better. The pain you were feeling over the loss of the previous relationship seems to fade away and you feel re-energized and revitalized.
This all sounds wonderful, but there are serious problems with these types of relationships and it's important to be wary of jumping into one.
When you are in a serious relationship that ends, it is very important that you take some time to process that.
You can do this in one of several ways, depending on your individual circumstances.

Plan a get-away with a close friend.
Whether it's a two-day trip to the country or a two-week jaunt to Europe, take some time to get away.

Set a time limit for dating.
A good tip that works well for many people is to set a time limit for when they will begin dating again. It may be a month, two, or three.
It should be far enough in the future that you know that you'll be able to separate the things you are feeling now with the new feelings you may experience then.
Be honest with any new prospects.
You certainly don't want the first words out of your mouth when meeting someone new to be "I just broke up with my partner," but it's a good idea to make it known early in the new relationship that you just ended a serious relationship and it was difficult.
This lets them know where your head and heart are.
Don't jump into intimacy too quickly.
One mistake that many people make when they end a relationship with someone they cared deeply for is they seek out physical intimacy very quickly.
Although this can help you feel better in the moment, it can also lead to your feeling guilty or sad about the decision later on.
Although some rebound relationships actually work and become long-term commitments, the majority ends with disappointment and hurt.
Take some time to sort through your own feelings about your last relationship before moving into the next one.
You will feel better about finding love again and your new partner won't feel as though you're simply trying to bury past feelings by using them.
